5 days in beautiful Santa Barbara/Santa Ynez CA for the Durango
Songwriters Expo. My good friend Jack Hayford invited me this year
to participate in this wonderful event and to do a special
showcase. Met many fine songwriters and industry people. Top left
picture is yours truly and the beautiful and charming Loretta
Munoz from ASCAP. Below left is a shot of Jack and I at the
airport saying goodbye. The final night at the Expo was truly
inspiring. A concert of Nashville's top songwriters was especially
great. Jeffery Steele, Al Andersen (NRBQ), Chuck Cannon and Dan
Wilson (Semisonic). It was a songwriters in the round setup and
these boys traded song for 2 1/2 hours. Made me want to go home
and write 10 songs. Still working on that.

Today was the memorial service for Herb Ludwig, my longtime friend
and musical partner from Devonsquare. Herb died unexpectedly of
complications from heart surgery on Oct 3rd. The affair was
attended by over 1000 friends relatives and fans. I played my
version of the Phil Ochs song "When I'm Gone" and talked about
Herb for a bit. Still can't believe he's gone.
Click here for an obituary on Herb. God speed Herbie Joe. - TD |

Tom Yoder and I played to six thousand people at Schouler Park for
the 4th of July festivities in North Conway, NH. Ahh a hometown
gig. There's no better place to be in the summer than in the White
Mountains. - TD |

The 27th Annual Devonsquare / Schooner Fare Reunion was a great
time again this year. This event raises money for the JMMF
Foundation and it was a great success again. The picture to the
left is of Teg Glendon on bass and yours truly performing at this
affair. Our good friend and fine guitarist Robbie Coffin also joined us for a few songs. It was like old times again. - TD |

First concert in downtown North Conway, NH in a long time for
Devonsquare. Very enthusiastic crowd this night. The Up Bar at
Horsefeathers is a great music room and we hope to do this here
again in the future. That's our bass player Teg Glendon between
Herb and Alana. Teg has been playing with us steady for about 15
years now.

Served as guest host and MC for the Maine Songwriters Assoc.
showcase at Acoustic Coffee in Portland, ME. This is an eclectic
little place on Danforth St. The owners Mark and Margaret are
great people and run a tight ship here on Thursdays. It was fun
for me to watch the other writers on the bill this night
(much younger and idealistic than myself) get up and play their
original songs. I sometimes wonder why so many people choose to
try their hand at songwriting these days. It can be such a
draining process, not to mention finding a place to play for
people who get the fact that you're attempting art here win or
lose. They were all so confident, opening their hearts and taking
a chance on these little melodies with words attached that we call
songs. Ah the sweet bird of youth. Honestly, I never remember
being seemingly that sure of myself. George Wardwell (my co-writer) showed up with his wife and stood in the back for support. I must say that I did one of the best sets that I've done in a while. I hope to do a solo concert here in the early spring. --TD |

Once again the eyes closed. I should just give it up and have all
my promo shots from now on with eyes closed. It's just much easier
to sing like that. Thinking about all those people in the front
row staring up at me and wondering whether they like it or not is
too distracting. Anyway, opening for my good friends Aztec Two Step at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH was lot's of fun and the response was great. This venue used to be the Muse and was recently sold and reworked by Scott the new owner. Hope to be back there in the near future. --TD |

Ah the good old days. It was just like old times again on Saturday
night in Biddeford, Maine at the Biddeford City Theater.
Devonsquare and Aztec Two Step once again joined forces for a
double bill performance. Here we are all together on stage
together singing Living In America. --TD |

Here I am visiting with Marilyn Rae Beyer of WUMB. I just talked
and played 4 songs live for Marilyn's show at noon. The next day I
played at Club Passim in Harvard Square for their Campfire Series.
Mark Simos and I shared the stage for 90 minutes swapping songs
and stories. Great fun. Always nice to be in Boston on a sunny
Saturday afternoon. --TD |

George Wardwell and I visited with Tim & Jamie from WMGX in
Portland, Maine this morning. I just love singing at 8 AM. While
discussing the Clam Festival in Yarmouth we found out that George
likes breaded and battered. It was good clean fun.

Tom Yoder and I played for some really great friends on the 4th of July. Here we are in Steve and Janice Brotherton's own backyard. The usual problems occurred when playing outdoors in the summer, like bugs flying down your throat while singing and the sun melting the guitars and mandolins. But all in all we had a great time playing for these folks. Check out the legs will ya. -- TD |

Came within inches of hitting a deer on Rte 95 in Maine Saturday
night at 65 MPH. Escape and on I go. I was driving home from a
performance in Waterville Maine at the UU Coffeehouse where I
shared the stage with Jud
Caswell whom I'd heard of but never really heard. He was
terrific and also a very nice man. Sunday afternoon was spent at the Doles Orchard Music Festival in Limington, Maine. If they decide to do this again next year I strongly suggest you attend. The setting is idillic and you can camp out, pick strawberries and dance all over like a wood nymph (if you're into that sort of thing). Getting lots of great feedback about the new CD and also good airplay. |

Well it all finally came together last night at The Big Kahuna in
Bridgton, Maine. Me and the boys played to about 75 enthusiastic
fans in celebration of the release of my CD
Pennies. I liken this experience to what your mothers probably
described to you about preparing and then cooking a big fancy
meal. It goes like this. You spend days worrying, shopping,
researching recipes and then many hours preparing and cooking the
meal. All your family and friends show up, sit down and 20 minutes
later the meal is devoured. In other words it went way too fast.
Despite technical sound problems at the onset, the band played beautifully. I will definitely do more shows with these guys in the future. Alana came up and sang "Love Is Always Gonna Look Just Like You" with me and brought the house down. All in all it was a night to remember for me. -- TD |

Here I am live at WMPG in Portland, Maine. Did this interview and live performance with George Wardwell by my side. Chris Darling was the interviewer and was great fun. Nice to be interviewed by someone so professional and well versed on the subject and the music. TD |
